Home Depot Q2 Sales Up 5.7%, Confident Outlook

Home Depot's net sales rose 5.7% in Q2 to $47.86 billion, driven by homeowners taking on modest spring maintenance projects amid persistent economic uncertainty. The retailer cited increased DIY activity—re-mulching, patio upgrades—as a key contributor to the uptick, while still facing high interest rates and inflation that restrain larger renovation spending.

Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail noted that consumers focused on smaller jobs, such as landscape and patio work, and that professional contractors were completing decking, electrical and plumbing tasks. However, he emphasized that the combination of factors needed to unlock larger, months‑long projects has not yet materialized.

The company remains confident in its full‑year outlook, citing steady demand for essential home improvement supplies. While the macro environment continues to pose challenges, Home Depot's robust sales performance and the resilience of its customer base suggest a positive trajectory for the remainder of the fiscal year.
