GM Boosts Heavy-Duty Truck Production Amid Strong Demand

General Motors will run its Flint Assembly plant six days a week starting in June, increasing production of its most powerful pickups. The Michigan facility currently operates three shifts, five days a week, producing about 1,100 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty trucks daily. The 2500 and 3500 models are built at this facility.

GM cited strong customer demand as the reason for adding a production day, even as gas and diesel prices rise. The Flint plant's increased output won't affect production at GM's Canadian facility in Ontario, which also builds heavy-duty Silverado models. Since automotive tariffs were introduced a year ago, GM has been maximizing production at U.S. factories to avoid additional duties.

The production boost comes as the automaker adjusts to market conditions. United Auto Workers officials confirmed the schedule change, noting it will allow GM to meet growing demand for its premium truck lineup. The move signals confidence in the heavy-duty truck segment despite broader economic pressures on consumers.
