GlobalFoundries escalated its legal battle against Tower Semiconductor Thursday, filing lawsuits alleging the Israeli chipmaker infringed on 11 patents in the U.S. The American semiconductor firm claims Tower engaged in "freeriding" on its innovations to unlawfully capture market share.

The lawsuits, filed in both the U.S. International Trade Commission and a Texas federal court, seek compensation for lost profits and an injunction blocking Tower from importing or selling products using GlobalFoundries' patented technologies. The move reflects growing tensions in the semiconductor industry over intellectual property rights.

Gregg Bartlett, GlobalFoundries' chief technology officer, defended the litigation as necessary to protect the company's IP and maintain fair competition. "There is no shortcut to real innovation," Bartlett stated, emphasizing that unauthorized use of patented technologies undermines industry integrity.
