Al Daein Teaching Hospital in Sudan's Darfur region was attacked, killing 64 people including 13 children, two nurses, and a doctor, according to World Health Organization chief Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The WHO director general reported the attack on Friday, noting extensive damage to the emergency department, pediatric, and maternity sections, rendering the hospital nonfunctional. 89 people were injured in the assault, which occurred amid nearly three years of civil war between Sudan's Rapid Support Forces and the army. Both military factions denied responsibility, blaming each other for the violence that has devastated Darfur and created one of the world's largest humanitarian crises.

Since the conflict began in 2023, 2,036 people have been killed in 231 health-care related attacks, with the WHO stating that health facilities should never be targeted.
