US Missile Strike Killed 175 at Iranian School, Probe Finds

A U.S. military investigation has determined that outdated targeting data caused a deadly Tomahawk missile strike on an Iranian elementary school, killing at least 175 people. The Feb. 28 attack on Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school in Minab occurred when U.S. forces used obsolete coordinates provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency to strike an adjacent naval base.

The school building had been part of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy base but was later converted for civilian use. Satellite imagery shows the site was fenced off from military operations between 2013 and 2016, with public entrances added and recreational facilities built. The Defense Intelligence Agency had labeled the school as a military target in its data, which was passed to U.S. Central Command without verification.

President Trump's attempts to blame Iran for the strike have complicated the investigation, with officials expressing unease over the administration's response. The error highlights the devastating consequences of human mistakes in wartime targeting, rather than technological failures. The incident has cast a shadow over the U.S. military operation in Iran, raising questions about intelligence verification processes during fast-moving conflicts.
