Trump Dismisses Minab Massacre Responsibility, Calls Evidence AI

President Donald Trump has dismissed U.S. responsibility for the Minab massacre, suggesting photo evidence of U.S. munitions striking an elementary girls' school is AI-generated. The February 28, 2026 strike killed 168 people, including over 100 children, on the first day of the U.S. and Israel's war on Iran. Despite internal Pentagon investigations acknowledging U.S. responsibility and video evidence showing Tomahawk missile fragments at the site, Trump refused to commit to releasing the military's investigation.

U.S. Central Command head Brad Cooper stated in May that the investigation was nearing conclusion, yet reports indicate the report was completed in April and remains withheld by senior Pentagon officials. Trump told Fox News he doesn't believe a conclusive report is possible, adding "it's also possible that those images are AI-generated."

Over two dozen Democrats sent a letter to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Cooper demanding the report's release. "There is no justification for withholding an unclassified accounting of what happened," the lawmakers wrote. The Minab massacre represents one of the worst single civilian massacres in U.S. history if U.S. responsibility is confirmed, and the administration faces mounting scrutiny over its refusal to disclose findings.
