Lebanese Family of Eight Killed as Israeli Strike Escalates Conflict

Hundreds gathered in Sidon on Sunday to mourn eight members of a displaced family killed when an Israeli airstrike hit the building where they were sheltering in Saksakiyeh. The victims included a married couple, three children, a six‑month‑old infant, the father's brother and a grandmother. Relatives said no evacuation warning was issued for the town.

Israel said the strike targeted Hezbollah militants operating from the structure, but offered no detail on the alleged combatants. The military confirmed it was reviewing reports of civilian casualties. The incident follows a series of Israeli bombings that began Thursday, including a strike on Beirut's Dahiya district that killed a senior Hezbollah commander.

Hezbollah has responded with artillery, drones and rockets, citing the growing number of civilian deaths—more than 450 since the March cease‑fire, according to Lebanon's health ministry. Israeli forces have also hit Bedias and other southern towns, killing paramedics and wounding children, while expanding operations north of the border.

The tragedy underscores the fragility of the month‑old truce between Israel and Hezbollah, which has already seen daily exchanges and threatens regional stability. With civilian loss mounting, pressure mounts on both sides to limit further escalation.
