A federal appellate panel sided with Missouri Republicans on Monday, backing a redrawn congressional map that favors their party. But due to a prior U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Missouri is still set to use the 2022 map for the November 2026 general election. The Supreme Court has twice cleared the older map, and ballots were mailed to overseas and military voters last week.

The Eighth Circuit ruling, from three Republican-nominated judges, found that using the 2022 map violates the Constitution. The panel ordered a district judge to give the Supreme Court a week to review, leaving uncertainty.

"Missourians filed to run for Congress, met candidates, watched campaign advertisements, received campaign mail and voted under the 2025 map," the judges wrote. The state's primary was held last month using the redrawn boundaries, creating a rare situation where many voters cast ballots for general election candidates they had no say in nominating.

Richard von Glahn of People Not Politicians Missouri said he would file an emergency appeal. Brianna Lennon, Boone County clerk, said she had not received new guidance. Republicans now hold six of Missouri's eight U.S. House seats; the redrawn map could flip a Kansas City-area district.
