StubHub is under investigation in Texas for alleged "ghost ticketing" practices related to the World Cup. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced his office is probing whether the ticket reseller is canceling or failing to deliver World Cup tickets purchased by fans through its platform, potentially defrauding consumers.

Paxton defined ghost ticketing as listing tickets for sale that the seller does not possess, collecting payment, and then canceling the transaction. StubHub has previously cited "transfer problems" linked to Fifa's ticketing as a reason for cancellations. The soccer governing body, aiming for $3 billion in ticketing and hospitality, stated it has no control over third-party platforms.

This probe adds to existing scrutiny of World Cup ticketing. Texas previously investigated Fifa for alleged misrepresentation of seat locations, and New York and New Jersey officials issued subpoenas regarding Fifa's ticketing operations. StubHub has not yet responded to requests for comment on the Texas investigation.

The attorney general's office is committed to holding StubHub accountable and assisting wronged fans, emphasizing the "once-in-a-lifetime experience" of attending a World Cup match.
