Ferrari EV Hits Sales Target Amid Design Backlash

Ferrari has achieved its 2026 sales target for its first electric vehicle, the Luce, within two months of its launch. Despite a polarizing design that drew criticism from investors and enthusiasts, strong demand, particularly from China, has driven sales. The company aimed to sell just under 500 units of the EV this year, a goal reached in early July.

The Luce, designed by former Apple designer Jony Ive and priced from €550,000, faced backlash for its unconventional styling. Former Ferrari chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo even suggested removing the prancing horse badge. Ferrari's Milan-listed shares dropped over 8% following the unveiling.

Ferrari aims to sell approximately 2,500 Luce vehicles by 2030, about 5% of its total annual sales, a target seen as achievable. CEO Benedetto Vigna stated the EV foray would not impact Ferrari's industry-leading operating margin due to limited volumes. Strong uptake has been noted in China, with positive feedback from US tech entrepreneurs.
