Anthropic unveiled Claude Science on Tuesday, its first dedicated AI platform for scientists and pharmaceutical companies. The $900bn startup aims to accelerate drug discovery workflows, including 3D protein structure rendering and molecule design. This marks a strategic push into enterprise life sciences ahead of its anticipated IPO.

Eric Kauderer-Abrams, head of life sciences at Anthropic, emphasized closing the gap between AI capabilities and scientific adoption across disciplines. The tool builds on existing Claude models and expands the company's enterprise offerings to researchers globally. Claude Science joins other agentic products like Claude Code that have raised industry concerns about autonomous task performance.

CEO Dario Amodei highlighted risks of biological AI misuse, suggesting only vetted entities should access powerful models that could create bioweapons. This follows export controls on Claude Mythos due to cybersecurity capabilities. The launch coincides with broader AI adoption in pharma, with Novo Nordisk and Astra Zeneca already using Claude for research.

Anthropic recently closed a $65bn funding round and acquired Coefficient Bio in April. The pharma-focused product provides another revenue stream as the company prepares for a public listing that could exceed $1tn valuation. Claude Science directly targets pharmaceutical R&D spending, positioning Anthropic in a high-value market segment.
