Anthropic has secured a deal with Elon Musk's SpaceX to access computing power from the Colossus 1 data centre, which houses more than 220,000 advanced Nvidia processors. The agreement adds 300 megawatts of capacity to Anthropic's rapidly expanding compute infrastructure as the AI startup works to meet surging demand for its Claude models.

The partnership comes as Anthropic has aggressively secured compute capacity this year, signing agreements worth tens of billions of dollars with Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Nvidia. SpaceX's AI lab xAI, which has merged with the space company, built out data centres but faces lower demand for its Grok models, leaving excess capacity that Anthropic can now utilise.

The deal will also boost usage of SpaceX's AI infrastructure as the company prepares for a blockbuster public listing. Anthropic said the agreement includes exploring partnering with SpaceX to develop multiple gigawatts of orbital AI compute capacity, potentially marking a new frontier in AI infrastructure.
