Russia’s 2026 oil output stalls amid drone attacks

Russia’s energy ministry projects crude output to hold steady in 2026 despite a surge in Ukrainian drone strikes on oil infrastructure. Officials expect production of roughly 511 million tons of crude and condensate this year, equivalent to about 10.26 million barrels per day. Analysts say flat output may cut OPEC+ share significantly. The forecast signals no growth as facilities in the Krasnodar region face repeated assaults.

The ministry’s baseline scenario lifts output to 516 million tons in 2027 and 525 million tons by 2029, a modest climb that hinges on repairing damaged storage and pipeline networks. Investors watch closely because any prolonged shortfall could tighten global oil supplies, pressuring Brent and WTI prices upward and reshaping trade flows to Europe and Asia.

Ukrainian drones have already crippled storage tanks at the Tuapse refinery, underscoring the vulnerability of Russia’s western export corridors. With sanctions limiting access to Western repair technology, Russian firms may turn to domestic manufacturers, potentially opening a niche market for locally produced equipment. The immediate effect is a tighter supply balance that could lift spot prices in the near term.
