OPEC Oil Output Climbs in July

OPEC’s crude oil production saw an increase in July, recovering some of its previous losses. This rise was primarily driven by gains from Gulf nations, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. Despite the upward trend, the precise tracking of the group’s output was complicated by the nature of opaque shipping data, according to a recent Bloomberg survey.

The survey indicated a rise of 180,000 barrels a day in OPEC’s output, bringing the total to 28.05 million barrels a day for the month. This recovery is significant as it partially offsets the production cuts implemented by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies, collectively known as OPEC+, earlier in the year. The group had agreed to reduce output by 2 million barrels a day starting in November to stabilize the market and support prices.

Saudi Arabia, a key player in OPEC, contributed significantly to the July increase. However, the overall picture is nuanced, with some members adhering more strictly to quotas than others. The ongoing efforts by OPEC+ to manage supply remain a critical factor in global oil markets, influencing prices and geopolitical dynamics.
