Chip Selloff Hits Asian Markets as Yields Surge

Asian stocks were set to fall as a selloff in US technology shares, elevated bond yields and rising oil prices weighed on sentiment. The Nasdaq 100 dropped 2.3% overnight, led by semiconductor names, while 10-year Treasury yields climbed above 4.5% for the first time since 2007.

Futures for Japan's Nikkei 225, Australia's ASX 200 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng all pointed lower. Chipmakers including TSMC and Samsung Electronics faced particular pressure after Nvidia's slide dragged the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index down 3.1%.

Oil extended gains with Brent crude nearing $95 a barrel, adding to inflation concerns that have kept central banks hawkish. The dollar held near a 10-month high, pressuring Asian currencies.

Traders awaited US jobs data and Fed speakers for clues on the rate path. "The convergence of higher yields, stronger oil and tech weakness creates a toxic mix for risk assets," said a strategist at Mizuho Securities.
