Bloom Energy Corp., Illumina Inc. and Everpure Inc. will join the S&P 500 in the latest quarterly rebalance, S&P Dow Jones Indices said Friday. The three companies will replace Molson Coors Beverage Co., Trade Desk Inc. and Builders First Source Inc. before the start of trading on Sept. 21.

Bloom Energy, a fuel-cell maker, in July posted earnings that were more than double expectations and raised full-year guidance for the second consecutive quarter, a sign of rampant demand from data centers. The company manufactures fuel cells that produce electricity from natural gas, and its systems are in high demand to power data centers. Life sciences firm Illumina also boosted its total revenue guidance for the full-year above estimates in July, while computer storage firm Everpure also published results that beat estimates.

The growth of passive investing has elevated the importance of inclusion in the S&P 500. Companies must have a market capitalization of at least $22.7 billion and meet profitability, liquidity and share-float requirements to qualify. Reddit Inc. joined the S&P 500 in August, replacing Avalon Bay Communities Inc. In June, Marvell Technology Inc. and Flex Ltd. joined, replacing Pool Corp. and Campbell's Co.
