A developer has ported an experimental PS5 emulator to the Xbox Series X. Devran Cosmo Uenal posted a YouTube video on September 8 detailing the project, which ports the open-source KytyPS5 emulator to Microsoft's console via Developer Mode. He demonstrated GEX Trilogy, Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Quake II, claiming they all work with controller input, though sound only functions in some. Uenal noted AI tools were used but did not specify their extent. Compatibility remains limited, with significant work still needed.

The Xbox environment lacks Vulkan support, which KytyPS5 relies on for rendering, so the graphics code must be adapted to DirectX. This limits overlap with PC development progress. Performance benchmarks are absent, but the video shows Quake II running between 25 FPS and 45 FPS, dipping below 20 FPS during boot-up and certain scenes. Input latency also appears increased, though unmeasured.

The KytyPS5 emulator is still in early development. Despite rapid progress—TechPowerUp previously reported it advancing Demon's Souls Remake from unplayable to 30 FPS in days—it faces challenges emulating heavier PS5 games on the Xbox Series X, given similar hardware specs to the PS5. Lighter titles may achieve better results. This demo highlights the accelerating pace of console emulation.
