Qualcomm is increasing prices for its chips by double digits starting tomorrow, following an announcement in July that prices would rise for chips shipped after September 1. CEO Cristiano Amon told Reuters the company cannot continue absorbing increasing supplier costs, stating, "We're just passing through big cost increases that we have."

Apple has been transitioning to its own modem chips but still sources modem chips from Qualcomm for iPhone 17 models. The iPhone 17 Pro models will be discontinued when iPhone 18 Pro launches in September, though the standard iPhone 17 may remain. Apple's iPhone 17e and iPhone Air use its C1X modem, while rumors suggest some iPhone 18 Pro models and a foldable iPhone could use a new Apple-designed C2 chip. Leaked documents from Tata Electronics indicate Apple may still rely on Qualcomm for U.S. modem chips.

DRAM and storage price increases due to supply issues have affected most device manufacturers. Apple raised Mac and iPad prices in June, and iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to be more expensive. Amon predicted Qualcomm's Apple revenue will drop approximately 50 percent from the September quarter to the December quarter due to supply constraints reducing Qualcomm's component share in the iPhone 18 lineup. Qualcomm also supplies Samsung and other manufacturers, with price increases negotiated individually.
