Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 brings a smoother Pixel experience, fixes plenty of bugs, boosts scam protection, and gets Google one step closer to the stable release. The update has reached Platform Stability, meaning APIs are locked and the focus is on system polish and bug fixes. Google fixed several Pixel pain points, including overheating, unexpected reboots, gesture navigation, battery-limit charging, Recents, Bluetooth audio, and screen-recording issues.

Hardware support gets attention, too, with fixes for USB-C XR mirroring, 3D smart-glasses displays, and low-light Face Unlock. Critical bug fixes include thermal management issues, the 80% battery limit feature, broken gesture navigation, and a transparent status bar bug. The search in the app drawer may stop accepting text input, Bluetooth call audio may route incorrectly, and the Recents screen may freeze.

Google also beefed up protection against call-forwarding scams by limiting USSD-based forwarding commands. Early beta testers report significant improvements, with one Pixel 9a owner calling Beta 4 the most stable QPR2 build yet, noting lag is gone and performance noticeably improved. Another Pixel 8 owner said the phone now feels "fast.".
