New Rangers striker Kevin Kelsy, aged just 22, has already had an eventful career, from hiding in a truck to playing in a war zone.

Kelsy began his career in his homeland with Mineros de Guayana, making his debut in 2021 at the age of just 16. To get there, he traveled 500 miles from his hometown of Valencia. During the Covid-19 pandemic, a nationwide travel ban forced him to hide in a mining truck to avoid detection at checkpoints. "It wasn't an appropriate time to be using airports," Kelsy said, adding, "I was so young, I only let myself be guided by my dreams."

The year after his debut, he scored five goals in 24 appearances, leading to a move to Shakhtar Donetsk after a brief spell in Uruguay with Boston River. Over two title-winning seasons in Ukraine, he netted nine goals in 37 appearances against the backdrop of war with Russia. "I could see up in the sky war drones getting knocked down," he said. "They are moments that will forge you, mature you."

At Rangers, Lawrence Shankland remains the marquee summer signing, having scored three goals in back-to-back wins.
