Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been acquitted of alleged involvement in distributing a sexually explicit video involving a minor. The 23-year-old was absolved by a Spanish court, and charges were withdrawn in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria. The court gave minimum sentences to three defendants after the victims, two women aged 16 and 18, forgave them.

The case was linked to a video recorded at a beach club in Gran Canaria in June 2023. Three of Asencio's former Real Madrid academy teammates received one-year suspended sentences for child pornography, plus sexual re-education courses, restraining orders, and bans from working with minors.

Asencio said: "Today, after a long period of silence and respecting a judicial process, I can say I have been acquitted." He acknowledged the difficulty and expressed trust in justice, adding: "I accept it with peace of mind and satisfaction."

Separately, Real Madrid opened disciplinary proceedings over his drink-driving conviction in Gran Canaria, where he was over three times the limit. He was fined and had his licence suspended for eight months. Coach Jose Mourinho said: "I am not happy. We all make errors but no, I'm not happy." Asencio apologized, saying: "I am deeply sorry... it will not happen again."
