Zach Abbott has joined Southampton from Nottingham Forest, while defender Yukinari Sugawara has moved to Serie A side Cagliari on a season-long loan.

The 26-year-old Sugawara signed for Southampton in summer 2024, making 35 appearances and scoring one goal. He spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, where he played 31 times and registered six assists.

Southampton also confirmed that full-back Juan Larios has had his contract terminated by mutual consent. Larios joined in 2022 from Manchester City, making six first-team appearances, with injuries hampering his progress.

Earlier on transfer deadline day, forward Cameron Archer left to join Auxerre on loan for the season. Goalkeeper Jamie Jones has rejoined the club for the remainder of the campaign.
