Hibernian striker Owen Elding has received his first official call-up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad for their upcoming Nations League campaign.

Elding, whose father Anthony Elding also played for Sligo, came through the club's academy and made his debut at 17 in October 2023. He enjoyed a breakout 2025 season in the Irish Premier Division, scoring 16 goals and providing five assists, earning the PFAI Young Player of the Year award. His form attracted Scottish Premiership side Hibs, who signed him in January on a four-and-a-half-year deal.

Since joining Hibs, Elding has scored six goals in 22 appearances, including three in nine outings in the current campaign. He previously joined the squad during the summer window, gaining valuable experience with the international setup.

Republic of Ireland manager Hallgrimsson has included Elding in squads for matches against Kosovo and Austria, as well as a double-header against Israel. While competition for places is fierce with forwards like Troy Parrott, Adam Idah, and Tom Cannon, Hallgrimsson praised Elding's attitude, character, and potential, noting the young striker is currently working back to full fitness after a recent injury.
