Petivity, owned by Purina, has launched a new AI-powered smart feeder designed exclusively for cats. The device uses cameras and facial recognition algorithms to identify individual felines and track their eating patterns, portion sizes, and frequency. It can learn the unique feeding behaviors of up to five cats, making it particularly useful for multi-cat households where animals require different diets for medical reasons.

While it cannot dispense different food types, it alerts owners if a cat eats from the wrong bowl. The feeder transforms daily meals into actionable health insights, detecting subtle behavioral shifts valuable for veterinary visits. All data is accessible via a companion app, which also allows remote feeding, custom scheduling, video calls, and low-kibble alerts.

Components are dishwasher-safe. The AI was trained on 21,000 real-world feeding sessions, 1,400 hours of video, and over 15,000 cat images. Petivity reports 99.5 percent of test cats accepted the feeder.

The $150 device handles only dry kibble, not wet food, and requires no subscription for AI features.
