Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: The 15-Year-Old IPL Sensation Breaking All Records

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to rewrite the record books. The 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals opener followed his 35-ball century as a 14-year-old - which made him the youngest centurion in men's T20s - with a 36-ball ton against Pat Cummins' Sunrisers Hyderabad two weeks ago. Only West Indies legend Chris Gayle has reached centuries faster in IPL history. Sooryavanshi is now the fifth highest run-scorer in this year's tournament while batting with the second highest strike-rate.

Former England all-rounder Mike Yardy, who has observed the teenager's rise since he was 12, admits he cannot find weaknesses in the youngster's game. "The talent he has got, I don't know what to predict because I have never seen anything quite like it," Yardy tells BBC Sport. Former India international Deep Dasgupta describes his bat swing as "unique" - a circular, wristy motion rather than the linear path taught to most batters. Dasgupta notes bowlers have started targeting his stumps more (from 32% to 39% according to CricViz) to cramp his room, and he struggled against swing against Lucknow Super Giants.

The question now is whether Sooryavanshi could break into India's senior squad for the T20 series against England in June. As the only uncapped player in the top 10 of IPL run-scorers this year, some wonder if he's ready for international cricket. "The people in the system have a duty of care to make sure this talent is handled and mentored properly," Dasgupta says. "He should be part of the set-up, not necessarily push him into playing straight away."
