Opener Emilio Gay will undergo further treatment on a shoulder injury sustained during Durham's One-Day Cup match against Middlesex. England remain hopeful he'll recover in time for the first Test against Pakistan starting 19 August. Gay underwent a scan on Saturday and will be assessed during Pakistan's warm-up game at Beckenham, though he won't participate.

England have reshuffled their batting lineup following Ben Stokes' retirement and Jacob Bethell's knee injury. Jordan Cox takes Bethell's place at number three, while Dan Lawrence moves to six and bowls off-spin. Ollie Pope remains in the squad as a reserve option.

Coaching changes continue as Joe Root returns as captain at Headingley, with Marcus Trescothick serving as interim coach until Stephen Fleming arrives from New Zealand in September. Fleming's availability before the Pakistan series concludes remains unclear.
