Subsequently, the planned 10:00 BST training session was cancelled, with the team remaining inside their hotel. Reports indicated that several players, including goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu, wished to withdraw from the match. Hours later, after a prolonged internal meeting, players emerged to confirm the news conference would resume.

Football Association of Ireland [FAI] CEO David Courell, alongside Hallgrimsson and the FAI Director of Football, announced that a players' vote had passed by a significant majority to play the game at Nagyerdei Stadion.
