Day one of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow is already packed for Team Northern Ireland. The first event sees Gary Kelly take on New Zealand’s Shannon Mc Ilroy in men’s singles badminton at 08:30 BST, following his win over Niue the previous day. Later, Shauna O'Neill and Chloe Wilson will face Niue in the women’s pairs at 11:20, after beating Singapore earlier.

At the Tollcross Swimming Centre, the morning starts at 10:30 with a full slate of heats. Victoria Catterson competes in the women’s 400 m freestyle, while Grace Davison and Lottie Cullen begin the 200 m backstroke. Conor Ferguson and Paddy Johnston swim the 50 m backstroke; Alana Burns‑Aiken tackles the 50 m butterfly, and Adam Bradley the 100 m breaststroke. Barry Mc Clements contests the men’s S10 100 m butterfly, and Team NI also enters both the men’s and women’s 100 m freestyle relay heats. Semi‑finals and finals, if swimmers advance, run from 19:00.

At the SEC Centre, boxers will fight early. Louis Rooney meets Lesotho’s Mathealira Seholoholo sunlight 11:45 in the men’s bantamweight 55 kg round of 32. From 13:00 onward, at the Emirates Arena, Olympic champion Rhys Mc Clenaghan joins Ewan Mc Ateer and Eamon Montgomery for qualification bouts.
