Sooryavanshi's 11‑Ball Half‑Century Sets New List A Record

Teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed a record for India A with a blistering 11‑ball half‑century, the fastest fifty ever in List A 50‑over cricket. He reached 50 in just 11 deliveries, facing only one dot ball and hitting five fours and five sixes. The innings propelled him to 94 off 29 balls in a total of 377‑9 against Sri Lanka A.

His feat eclipsed Thisara Perera’s 13‑ball half‑century for the Sri Lankan Army in 2021, and beat the international bests of AB de Villiers and Matthew Forde, who needed 16 balls. The performance arrived the same day Sooryavanshi was left out of India’s ODI squad for the England series, though he remains in the T20 line‑up for Ireland and England.

At 15, Sooryavanshi already tops the IPL run‑scoring charts this season, and his explosive cameo signals a potential fast‑track to senior international cricket. With senior batters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Hardik Pandya omitted, his presence adds depth to India’s limited‑overs options ahead of the July ODIs.

India’s ODI squad, led by Shubman Gill, also lists Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, while Virat Kohli awaits fitness clearance. The inclusion of Sooryavanshi in the T20 side for the Ireland clash on 26 June and the England series starting 1 July gives him a platform to translate domestic fireworks into full‑international impact.
