Roger Randle Munster Move Collapses After Allegations Resurface

Munster have confirmed Roger Randle will no longer join the province as attack coach, despite announcing the New Zealander's arrival on 15 April. The move fell through by "mutual agreement" after a 1997 rape allegation resurfaced during the work permit process. Randle always denied the charge, which was dropped by the complainant nearly three decades ago when he was playing for the Hurricanes in Durban, South Africa.

The controversy prompted three former players - Billy Holland, Killian Keane and Mick O'Driscoll - to resign from Munster's Professional Game Committee. Members of the Commercial Advisory Group also stepped down. The scandal overshadowed what was meant to be a reunion with head coach Clayton McMillan, with whom Randle previously worked at the Chiefs in Super Rugby.

Randle expressed "sadness and disappointment" in a statement, maintaining his "complete and unwavering innocence" and calling the allegations unfounded. Munster GM Ian Costello acknowledged it had been a difficult conclusion, while McMillan said he was personally disappointed not to reunite with someone he described as an outstanding person and coach. The province currently sit fifth in the United Rugby Championship standings ahead of their penultimate regular-season game at Connacht on 9 May.
