Pirelli secures F1 tyre supply through 2028

Italian tyre maker Pirelli secured a fresh deal to remain Formula 1’s exclusive rubber supplier through the 2028 season, adding a single year to the existing contract. The extension was confirmed by F1 chief Stefano Domenicali, who praised the partnership’s technical depth and sustainability focus, and highlights stability for the sport’s global fanbase and revenue.

Earlier this year Bridgestone attempted to wrest the contract, but Pirelli outbid the Japanese rival and kept its foothold. While speculation lingered that the new deal might be the tyre maker’s final stint, sources say Pirelli remains open to extending beyond 2028 if the FIA’s tender process invites other contenders, and secure its market share.

The renewed supply line gives teams stability ahead of the 2025 regulation overhaul, when tyre performance will influence car design more than ever. FIA officials must now open the formal tender, evaluate technical proposals and negotiate commercial terms before a long‑term partner is selected, and avoids costly mid‑season tyre swaps. Pirelli’s continued presence ensures no abrupt change for the championship this decade.
