Olympic Rower Opens Up About Eating Disorder Struggles

Olympic bronze medalist Becky Wilde has revealed how an eating disorder became her normal for years. The Team GB rower, who won bronze at the Paris Olympics in 2024, spoke candidly about hiding her struggles from coaches, family, and friends for an extended period before acknowledging the condition that had become deeply ingrained in her daily life.

Wilde's issues began in her teenage years after a comment about weight gain that she attributed to her swimming performance. The disorder manifested in different ways during her athletic career - overtraining and sickness during her swimming years, then repeated rib injuries and weakened bone density during her rowing career, which she now directly links to inadequate nutrition and the pressures of elite sport.

After years of silence, Wilde finally sought help in 2022 when back-to-back rib injuries left her "broken down." She credits therapy with her recovery and now advocates for others struggling with similar disorders, emphasizing that "asking for help is the best thing you could ever do." Her Olympic success has helped her appreciate her body's capabilities after years of treating it poorly.
