Shaun Murphy recovered from 3-0 down to draw level at 4-4 against Wu Yize in the first session of their World Championship final at the Crucible Theatre. The match was briefly interrupted when a female spectator jumped over the front-row barrier before referee Rob Spencer and security escorted her out of the venue.

Wu established a commanding early lead with breaks of 51 and 61, looking to become the second-youngest Crucible champion at just 22 years old. However, Murphy responded in style, compiling runs of 85, 98, 77 and a superb 109 to seize a 4-3 advantage. The Englishman is aiming to set a new record for the longest gap between his first and second world titles, with it being 21 years since his 2005 triumph.

Wu, who became the third Chinese player to reach the world final after Ding Junhui and last year's champion Zhao Xintong, restored parity in the eighth frame. He made a break of 65 while attempting a maximum 147 before the players headed to the mid-session interval locked at 4-4.
