Eddie Howe Keeps Newcastle Job After Tough Season Talks

Eddie Howe will remain as Newcastle head coach next season after talks with the club's Saudi Arabian ownership. The 48-year-old met with the hierarchy during their annual summit in Northumberland this week, where he faced "difficult questions" while presenting to owners and the board about the club's struggles.

Newcastle suffered 16 Premier League defeats this season, with only Wolves, Burnley and West Ham faring worse. The club also attempted to replace Alexander Isak after selling him to Liverpool, failing with bids for Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro. Despite this, Newcastle remain five points from a European place.

Howe still has strong backing after ending Newcastle's 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning the Carabao Cup last season. He also guided the club to Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025. After the 3-1 win over Brighton ended a run of five straight defeats, Howe said he carried the weight of not wanting to "let the supporters down" - and that belief in his project remains.
