Eddie Howe is set to leave his role as Newcastle head coach, sources have told ESPN, ending his five-year tenure just 25 days before the new Premier League season opener against Liverpool at St James' Park on Aug. 23.

The 48-year-old oversaw three preseason games but follows high-profile exits including Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, while Bruno Guimarães is linked with Arsenal. Under Howe, Newcastle won the Carabao Cup in 2025—their first trophy since 1969—and twice qualified for the Champions League, though last season's 12th-place finish disappointed.

Howe's 46.9% win rate (84 wins in 179 games) trails only Kevin Keegan (51.2%) among Newcastle managers. Appointed in November 2021 with the club 19th, he secured safety before Champions League qualification. The Saudi PIF-backed consortium's arrival preceded his tenure. The Athletic reports Matthias Jaissle, currently at Al Ahli, is set to replace him.
