Montpellier crushed Ulster's hopes of ending a 20-year trophy drought with a 59-26 victory in the Challenge Cup final. Ulster captain Nick Timoney scored an early try, but Montpellier responded through Gabriel N'Gandebe and Donovan Taofifenua. Despite Cormac Izuchukwu's response, the French side dominated the first half with tries from Billy Vunipola and Alex Becognee, taking a 26-12 lead into halftime.

The second half proved even more one-sided as Montpellier put the game beyond doubt within nine minutes. Taofifenua scored his second try, and Lenni Nouchi added another. Robert Baloucoune briefly revived Ulster's hopes, but Baptiste Erdocio and Wilfrid Hounkpatin sealed the win. Montpellier's ruthless performance showcased why they are now three-time winners of the tournament, with Domingo Miotti kicking 10 points.

Michael Lowry scored a late consolation for Ulster, who now miss out on both silverware and Champions Cup qualification. The defeat caps a disappointing week for the Irish province after also failing to reach the United Rugby Championship play-offs. Richie Murphy's side showed promise early but wilted under the sweltering 33-degree heat in Bilbao, ending their season with a heavy defeat that raises questions about their European ambitions.
