Mike Grady has departed as head coach of Salford RLFC after a brief three‑month spell that began on 5 January. The former Salford Red Devils women’s coach stepped into the role amid a turbulent start to the club’s new era. Grady’s exit came by mutual agreement following a change in his personal circumstances.

Assistant coach Dave Hewitt will assume first‑team duties on an interim basis, while the club’s search for a permanent replacement has already begun. Salford’s statement praised Grady’s “unwavering commitment” and thanked him for the hard work he delivered in “very challenging circumstances.” The club aims to appoint a new head coach quickly to preserve stability and momentum.

Grady said, “What we created at the start of the year was pretty special and I’m proud to have built that.” He added he was happy to leave the club in a better place and wished the team all the best for the future. Chief executive Ryan Brierley noted Grady’s role in guiding the club through relegation and liquidation.

The departure underscores the volatility that can accompany a club’s rebirth. With Salford still carving out its identity after a double blow of relegation and liquidation, leadership continuity will be vital. Grady’s brief tenure, though short, helped lay a foundation that the incoming coach will need to build upon to keep the team on an upward trajectory.
