Former Australia Test batter Matthew Hayden will take charge of Glasgow Cosmic in the European T20 Premier League's inaugural competition. The 54-year-old, who scored 15,066 runs for Australia across 103 Tests and 161 ODIs, brings extensive coaching experience to the role.

Hayden's recent stint as Gujarat Titans' batting coach in the 2026 IPL follows previous work with Pakistan's coaching staff through the 2022 T20 World Cup. His assistant will be fellow Queenslander Matthew Mott, who led England's white-ball team from 2022 to 2024.

Glasgow Cosmic have secured several high-profile signings including New Zealand opener Finn Allen and South Africa fast bowler Lungi Ngidi. The franchise is backed by Mugafi Group, an India-based entertainment business, joining other investor-heavy teams in the six-city tournament.

The ETPL runs from August 26 to September 20 across The Hague and Dublin venues, featuring teams from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Belfast, Dublin, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Former Australia captain Steve Waugh and India legend Rahul Dravid have stakes in other franchises, while Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan co-owns the league alongside Rules Sport Tech.

Hayden's appointment gives Glasgow Cosmic immediate credibility in a league looking to establish itself as a stepping stone between domestic cricket and the IPL.
