Liverpool secured the 2030 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, set for the M&S Bank Arena. More than 400 gymnasts from 80 nations will converge, echoing the city's 2022 success that drew 35,000 fans and injected £5.6 million into the local economy. This marks the fourth UK staging of the event, following Liverpool’s run of championships. Officials hope the event will cement Liverpool’s status as a sporting destination.

British Gymnastics, UK Sport and Liverpool City Council jointly celebrated the bid, citing a feasibility study that projects the 2030 edition could generate £8m for the region. Great Britain’s best haul came in 2022 with six medals, three of which featured floor champion Jessica Gadirova, who called the Liverpool crowd the most inspiring atmosphere of her career. Gadirova praised the crowd’s energy as a highlight.

The 2030 meet will double as the first qualifier for the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane, giving athletes a direct pathway to the sport’s biggest stage. Organisers promise a legacy of community health and engagement, echoing the 2022 narrative of hometown support. Liverpool’s repeat hosting solidifies its reputation as Britain’s gymnastics hub. The event is expected to boost local revenue.
