Northern Ireland's Kate O'Connor is in a strong position to win her first Commonwealth Games gold medal, leading the heptathlon after the first four events in Glasgow. She holds a 55-point lead over England's Jade O'Dowda, who is in second place.

In the absence of defending champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, O'Connor, who won silver in Birmingham in 2022, is aiming to become the first new Commonwealth heptathlon champion in eight years. The competition has also seen Australia's Mia Scerri in third place, with England's Niamh Emerson in medal contention in fourth.

The heptathlon will conclude on Wednesday with the long jump, javelin, and the 800m race, determining the final standings.
