England have been drawn alongside France, Austria and Portugal in Group A2 of the 2027 Women's Nations League, with matches across three international windows starting in February‑March 2027. Manager Sarina Wiegman called France a "world‑class team" and noted Portugal's ability to switch between possession and direct play.
The Nations League now doubles as the qualification route for the 2028 Olympic Games and Euro 2029. The four League A group winners advance to semi‑finals in October 2027, followed by a final to crown the champions.
Other home nations face stern tests: Scotland meet Germany, the Netherlands and Sweden; the Republic of Ireland take on Spain, Norway and Switzerland; Wales play Denmark, Italy and Iceland; and Northern Ireland are paired with Poland, Finland and Belarus.
