Olympic champion Josh Kerr has revealed that while he competes in the World Indoor Championships in Poland this week, his true focus is on the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Scottish middle-distance runner considers the home Commonwealth Games his season's priority, aiming to add Commonwealth gold to his Olympic and world championship medals.

The 1500m specialist described the Commonwealth Games as a childhood dream, explaining how growing up in Scotland made the event particularly meaningful. Kerr recalled conversations with family about competing for Scotland and the special significance of having the Games in his home country. He emphasized that fellow Scottish runners like Jake Wightman and Neil Gourley share this priority, creating a strong Scottish team mentality.

Kerr returns to competition after a disappointing World Athletics Championships in Japan last September, where a pulled calf muscle left him finishing last in the 1500m final. Despite limited racing since then, the US-based athlete says he's in excellent shape for the indoor season and confident about his medal chances in Poland. He credits his coach Danny Mackey for his current fitness level and preparation.
