Ferrari Boss Skips Monaco GP

Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur will miss Saturday's Monaco Grand Prix qualifying for medical reasons. The 58-year-old Frenchman made comments following Friday's practice about the challenges of the tight circuit with 10% more cars on track this year. His absence comes at a critical time as Ferrari navigates both on-track performance and off-track negotiations regarding engine regulations for 2027.

Ferrari is blocking an agreement reached between all parties last month to change engine design specifications. The Maranello-based manufacturer wants to maintain current rules to benefit from development opportunities while preventing Mercedes from upgrading their engine. The proposal would change the power split from near 50-50 between internal combustion and electrical power to 60-40 in favor of internal combustion by increasing fuel flow.

Audi joins Ferrari in opposing the engine rule changes, creating a standoff with other manufacturers. Vasseur noted the difficulty of proper out-laps with so many cars on track, suggesting qualifying strategy will be crucial. Ferrari's stance on the engine rules could significantly impact the competitive landscape heading into the 2027 season, potentially reshaping power dynamics in the sport.
