Farrell Slams 'Keyboard Warriors' Over Ireland Fly-Half Debate

Ireland head coach Andy Farrell has launched a passionate defense of fly-halves Jack Crowley and Sam Prendergast, urging social media critics to 'cop on and help' the young players amid intense scrutiny. Farrell's comments came after Ireland's narrow victory over Italy, where Prendergast struggled before being replaced by Crowley, who delivered a high-tempo performance.

Crowley had started every minute of Ireland's 2024 Six Nations triumph, while Prendergast has featured in all but one of seven championship games since. The 26-year-old's frustration was evident when he kicked the ball dead while chasing a last-gasp bonus point, though Farrell praised his overall contribution. Prendergast missed two conversions in the win, adding to the pressure on the 21-year-old who made his Ireland debut in November 2024.

Farrell dismissed suggestions he had rushed Prendergast into Test rugby too early, insisting the Leinster player was playing 'outstanding rugby' and would continue to develop. The coach highlighted positives including Robert Baloucoune's try-scoring debut and Stuart McCloskey's two try assists, while warning that Ireland must be wary of a strong response from England after their Murrayfield defeat to Scotland.
