Sebastien Ogier secured his first victory of the 2024 WRC season at Rally Islas Canarias, completing the rally in 2 h 43 m 18.9 s. The eight‑time world champion finished 19.9 seconds ahead of Wales’ Elfyn Evans, who grabbed a maximum 10‑point Sunday bonus. Elfyn Evans’ runner‑up finish lifts him back to the top of the drivers’ standings.

Toyota dominated the event, filling the first four places with Ogier, Evans, Finland’s Sami Pajari and Japan’s Takamoto Katsuta. Evans now leads Katsuta by two points, holding 101 points after five of the fourteen rounds. Oliver Solberg, who had won six of the eighteen stages, crashed on the penultimate sector, leaving the Frenchman with zero points and ending Toyota’s chance at a clean top‑five.

Ford’s Jon Armstrong struggled on his WRC debut, losing more than two minutes when spectators had to push his car back onto the gravel after an off‑road excursion. teammate Josh McErlean salvaged eighth place, while the Irish duo’s overall performance highlighted the gap to the Toyota quartet. Despite the setback, Armstrong remained optimistic about gaining pace on future tarmac events.

The calendar now turns to Portugal for round six, where mixed surfaces will test the leaders’ adaptability. Evans’ resurgence, combined with a slim margin over Katsuta, puts him in a strong position to defend his lead, while Sebastien Ogier will aim to convert his victory into a championship charge. Toyota’s depth ensures the fight remains intensely competitive.
