Reigning Commonwealth Games champions Rosie Eccles and Daniel Salmon have been selected as Team Wales' flag and baton bearers for the opening ceremony. Boxer Eccles, 30, and bowler Salmon received the surprise news from Team Wales chef de mission Gethin Jones. Eccles, who will celebrate her birthday on Thursday night, will lead Wales out at the Hydro. She is competing in her third and final Games, having previously won silver in 2018 and gold in Birmingham.

Eccles expressed her delight, stating, "I don't think I've stopped smiling, I was speechless and it's not often that happens." She added, "It is unreal, a huge honour. I feel so fiercely proud to represent Wales again anyway and have my shot at gold for the team." Eccles recalled watching Geraint Thomas carry the flag at the Birmingham Games four years ago and never imagined she would have the same opportunity.

Salmon, also a Commonwealth Games champion, will share the honour of carrying the flag. This selection marks a significant moment for both athletes as they prepare to lead Team Wales into the prestigious event.
