Former UFC interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier was arrested in Atlanta on suspicion of public drunkenness after an airport altercation captured on body‑camera footage. In the video Poirier threatens an officer, demands a taser, then calms when a second officer arrives, even fist‑bumping the cameraman. He was released on bail later that day. The incident sparked immediate discussion among fans and media.

Poirier, 37, retired last year after a 16‑year MMA run that yielded 22 wins in 32 UFC bouts, including victories over Conor McGregor, Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje. He left the octagon as one of the most respected fighters never to capture an undisputed title and has since appeared as an analyst and charitable advocate in Louisiana. He also mentors young athletes through his foundation.

In his Instagram post Poirier admitted that life after fighting has been “hard” and that alcohol “isn’t the answer.” He pledged to seek help, protect his family and avoid the mistakes that damaged his father. Georgia law classifies public drunkenness as a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and $1,000 fine. His statement underscores the broader mental‑health challenges facing retired combat athletes.
