Dennis Faces Criticism Over Porsche Post After Wife's Death

Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis faces renewed criticism after posting a photo of a Porsche with the caption "What an absolute weapon," just months after his wife Melissa Hoskins died when he hit her with a car. South Australia's Victims' Rights Commissioner Sarah Quick called the post "deeply offensive," highlighting a "clear lack of insight" into his actions.

Dennis received a 17-month suspended sentence last year for creating the likelihood of harm during a 2023 incident outside their Adelaide home. While not criminally responsible for Hoskins' death, the court found he disregarded her safety by continuing to drive while she clung to the vehicle. The couple had been arguing about kitchen renovations before the fatal incident.

The post has drawn condemnation for its insensitivity, especially as Dennis remains banned from driving following the tragedy. His Instagram account has been largely dormant since his wife's death, with a recent post showing their family of four just days before the incident. Hoskins was a world champion cyclist and two-time Olympian, while Dennis won Olympic medals in 2012 and 2020.

The controversy resurfaces as Dennis faces ongoing fallout from the incident that claimed the life of his wife and cycling partner. Their 2018 marriage united two of Australia's most accomplished cyclists, whose shared passion for the sport defined their professional lives. Dennis retired at the end of 2023 following the tragedy.
