On July 18, Hannah Rapp, a 26-year-old professional boxer, was killed when Charles Eric Medina struck her with his 2008 Honda on FM 159 near College Station, Texas. Police say Medina passed Rapp and her boyfriend Will Pollalis within a foot, stopped, then rapidly reversed, hitting Rapp. Her head shattered the rear window. Medina later claimed he thought they were flagging him down and didn't see Rapp "until the last moment." Skid marks suggested he steered toward her while backing up.

Rapp, known as "Hanarchy," grew up in Yorktown, Indiana, and ran track at Purdue before pandemic budget cuts ended her career. An eating disorder followed; boxing became her therapy. She moved to Texas, trained under coach Carl Perry at Bryan Boxing Club, and turned pro in April 2024. She fought WBC featherweight champion Tiara Brown to a 10-round decision loss on June 13.

Medina, 31, has 50 police encounters over eight years, including a 2024 incident where he fired at police drones. He was arrested for manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $500,000 for assault and $250,000 for manslaughter. Judge John Brick denied a reduction, adding GPS monitoring and house arrest. Medina's attorney argued the combined bail was oppressive.
