Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina claims his coach Mariano Puerta abandoned him during Roland Garros after his first-round victory. The 21st seed, who defeated Damir Dzumhur before losing to Thiago Agustin Tirante in the second round, said his coach left without explanation after their match. Fokina dismissed reports of a fight, claiming everything was normal before Puerta's sudden departure.

According to Fokina, the pair had lunch after his opening-round win before Puerta said he wasn't feeling well and went to their hotel. Hours later, Fokina received a text from Puerta stating he "would not continue." The coach then reportedly flew to Miami without informing the team or saying goodbye. Even calls from Fokina and his wife went unanswered, leaving the player confused about the sudden split.

The situation adds complexity to what was already a disappointing second-round exit for Fokina at the French Open. Puerta, a 2005 Roland Garros runner-up to Rafael Nadal, is 45 years old. Fokina expressed disappointment with his coach's behavior, stating "If he acts like this at 45 years old, well, they're his decisions." The abrupt end to their professional relationship leaves Fokina to navigate the remainder of the season without his coaching staff.
